A true sign of the spring, Forsythia is one of first shrubs to bloom, providing a burst of color when gardeners need it most. The bright yellow flowers often blossom even when snow is still on the ground. This versatile plant can be used in too many ways, from a single focal point to a hedge or foundation planting.

This hardy, deciduous shrub grows in a wide range of conditions and can be grown in most areas. However, hardier varieties are recommended in northern climates where flower buds may be damaged by extreme cold or temperature fluctuations. Newer cultivars were bred for a compact stature more suited to much of an urban setting, as well as the unusual foliage and colorful stems that lend multi-season interest to the landscape.
